The Libyan dialogue committee agreed Tuesday, in Tunisia, to decrease the number of the Presidential Council’s members from nine to three, whom it said will be tasked with working according to the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA).

The amendments, which took place in the final day of the meeting for the dialogue committee in the presence of many political stakeholders, stated that the parties agreed that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord will be elected from outside the Presidential Council’s three members.

The Prime Minister will be responsible for executive legislations along with the ministers he chooses for the GNA.” The dialogue committee agreed.

The amendments to the LPA also included forming a military council – in the place of the Commander-in-Chief – which will be headed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Head of the High Council of State, and a member from the Presidential Council, who should be elected by the three members of the council itself.

The High Council of State will also expand its membership as per (7/7/2012 elections) and must include members from all electoral circles.” The amendments include.

The dialogue committee also agreed to give the Constitution Drafting Assembly a one-month deadline to finish the constitution, starting from the day of signing the new amended agreement.

The final statement of the dialogue committee also urged the HoR to approve the GNA before the amendments are signed by the dialogue parties to guarantee that all the agreed-upon points are of mutual consensus by all.
